OOH SO CHEESY

So, I just finished my semester in uni, and I got really worried cause the next semester is my last semester in uni. And to soothe myself I made this playlist, consist of 80s pop songs, some personal favourite and some of the tune are way more popular than your local celebrities. I remember the first time I hear most of these tune was when I was a kid, my dad play some of the songs really oftenly. Well I read somewhere that until the age seven, your brain stimulates the most so that's why what you've learnt when you were a kid lingers the most. I don't know if it was a fact or not, but these songs definitely linger until I'm in my young-adult phase. Enjoy!

(tip: shuffle it, it works)

When in Rome - The Promise
A-ha - Take on Me
Cyndi Lauper - Time After Time
Roxette - It Must Have Been Love
Abba - Dancing Queen
Stevie Wonder - I Just Called to Say I Love You
Air Supply - All Out of Love
Blondie - The Tide is High
Starship - Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now
Nazareth - Love Hurts
Chicago - Hard To Say I'm Sorry
Chicago - If You Leave Me Now

Proudly Present: Top 5 Albums of 2014

WELL WELL WELL.. I didn't really expect it's the last day of 2014 already.. Gosh it's been a reaaaaally short year for me. I don't know why. So, I guess it's time for my Top 5 Albums on 2014. DUM DUM DUM DUUUUM (Beethoven's fifth, I don't really know why I wrote that) 2014 made a lot of really really good albums. Since the very first month, I mean who forget about "Morning Phase" release on January? That album is so on my top 5 (spoiler alert.) Well guess I'm gonna cut out the chit-chat and let's start with number one. No particular order of course, it's already hard to narrow it down to 5.

BECK - MORNING PHASE

It's already said that this album is on my top 5 list. I mean, who doesn't love this baby-faced guy? Super talented since day one. I never get tired of "Loser" since I hear it for the first time which is probably older than your mom (mom's joke, classic.) But, we won't hear that rough guitar noise, computerised vocal, or weird sounds that he usually make, this album is melancholy as fuck, which is the first reason why I really love it. I can't decide which is better, Sea Change or this, but one thing for sure, this album wasn't the heart-breaking type. I mean sure, you already get that in Sea Change, Beck was broken-hearted and shit so he produce that magnificent album, in Morning Phase we could feel that breezy, soothing, and slow-paced music since the opener "Cycle" which is an opera opener. Pretty much perfect for my numb ears. I realised it too, this album is way "safer" for a come-back since Modern Guilt, but hey, he is definitely safe, right? Nobody hates this album, unless you hate it, then probably you should go back to your telly and watch The Voice.

INTERPOL - EL PINTOR

Oh I'm so excited about this album, well the last time I heard they were on hiatus after their Self-Titled on 2010, Banks even release his second solo album on 2013, so when I knew they were making a new album, it's a pretty good news to me. So, El Pintor, the anagram for Interpol (if you haven't realised it yet) opened with "All the Rage Back Home" and I still keep this song in my phone, if you really know me, I keep a very few songs on my phone and I have this song since it was released until now. First time I hear it, I'm not really expecting the sounds of old Interpol, like on their first two album, I thought it will be more dirge-y and difficult, instead I found the Turn On The Bright Lights and Antics vibe. Which is real good for me. You have to know as long as it comes from Interpol, I'm never disappointed, but this is unexpected, blew my mind. Well they may not be as authentic and as important as they were, but this album kinda proves that they still have what it takes to be beautiful.

JAMIE T - CARRY ON THE GRUDGE

I know what I said earlier, I can't pick up the best album in this list, but this is my personal favourite. First time I heard this man on "Sheila" I instantly knew that this guy is one of the kind. Panic Prevention which was his first release, is da-bomb (I don't really know ((again)) why I wrote that phrase. It's so american.) The punk-and-poets vibe on his first two album, and it's not heard in the third one. This was also the long-awaited album from Jamie, the last album Kings and Queens was released five years ago, and he goes on a hiatus. Rumor has that he had a throat problem which was blocking his music path. Though he was turning the steer on his music but he still has that lyrically genius type, still with that brit-street-happening type of lyrics. The only thing I miss about Jamie is the rap. I mean I love with how he rap his lyrics, but I didn't really expect that in this album when the first time "Don't You Find" was released. I don't know what's wrong about me, but it's the melancholy of the album that made me falling for this album. Probably except "Zombie" which was becoming my morning jam for a several weeks. Oh this album is also still on my phone. You know, the music on the phone thing, I already explain that.

KASABIAN - 48:13

Who watched the video of Tom and Serge decorating a 48:13 video on their youtube? I did. Their statement about their finally-speak-for-itself album, the above average length album, really got me when the album released. I was kinda embarassed to admit that the first time I hear Eez-eh, I didn't really like the idea. But you know, give it a little time and suddenly it lingers in your head for a really long time. The album consist of 13 tracks, I don't know is it merely a coincidence or not, but they said it related to the album name. I mean is kinda cheesy is it? named the album from the length of it. But whatever is it, this album is still awseome. You got the dark and slow, the melancholy and acoustic, also the jump-over-my-head kind of songs. It's pretty complete album, kinda mix moody, but it's awesome. I was even going back-and-forth the record store searching for this album. In my city it's pretty hard to find it. But it was all worth it.

MAC DEMARCO - SALAD DAYS

A sudden everyone's favourite, notorious Mac Demarco. I can't even say anything about this album. Literally. It's good. Trust me. You will love it.

It's the end of the list actually, if you're not counting. It's also the last day of 2014, which maybe some of you are already out in this raniy day, looking for a new year's eve party, or a little bbq party, or maybe you're at home, in front of the computer, like me, writing rubbish review, about something you love. It's just that, a real difficulty for me to narrow it to five albums, when you got plenty of awesome released music. But I love doing this so, hope that you'll get something from this. Happy new year x.

((BONUS ALBUM) VA - GUARDIAN OF THE GALAXY: AWESOME MIX VOL. ONE)

Best movie of 2014, along with the best soundtrack. You'll love it. It's as awesome as it was said.

iWander, iFound

So it's been my usual habit to wander around youtube literally everyday, sometimes I found funny videos, or maybe a mesmerizing one. This time I found the second one, this is the first time I literally clap my hand when the video ends. no lie. Here it is:

That was a track from a band (or alias?) called Fantasy Rainbow. This really soothing, calm, and of course what I said earlier, mesmerizing track called No Hope, Not Ever. The first one or two minute I open my mouth, luckily none of things come inside it. Bloody hell, I was so excited finding this guy. Check him out is worth your time.

Proudly Present: Top 5 Albums of 2013

With 2013 is almost over, overall it's a pretty shit year for me, I'm gonna share something to close the 2013 with something that's not pretty shit, Top 5 Albums of 2013. Even if 2013 is probably sucks for me, but no for the music industry, well sort of. 2013 had a lot of comebacks, innit? I mean, Black Sabbath, Primal Scream, My Bloody Valentine, Suede etc etc, they were all making good comeback. I always tought like "Oh yeah good, please comeback for the sake of the fans, but, no new album cause it will ruin you." but not for them, they were making a really really good album, magnificent, mind-blowing, A's for awesome, ok I'm getting this a lil bit too much... Well let's get started! My top 5 albums of 2013 (in no particular order), number one please welcome!

Black Sabbath - "13"

Thank you! First of all, this album is massively underrated by some of the press. They didn't even mention it AT ALL in their best album of 2013, well I guess they're wrong. I'm a big fan of Sabbath, I'm a big fan of Toni, I'm a big fan of Ozzy-years-of-Sabbath, not to mention Dio was bad, he's cool but I guess i have to say that Ozzy is much cooler and I guess I'm not the only one that happy Sabbath comeback with Ozzy, since Dio was dead. They open the album with "End of the Beginning", and guess what? MASSIVE HEAVY RIFF, and I fuckin' love it. They're back with that kind of riff, no melancholy songs like "Changes" or "It's Allright" in this album, well maybe "Zeitgeist" is kinda slow but they were all pretty much dark and heavy, well the album sleeve describe it very well, innit? Their first single of the album "God is Dead?" is bringing back the old-Paranoid-times of Sabbath and I think it's the best track of this album. So Sabbath, is this the end of the beginning? Or the beginning of the end?

Drenge - "Drenge"

The newest addition to my favourite band, Sheffield brothers duo, the magnificent, Drenge. I started to listen to this band when Converse upload their video of "Bloodsport" on youtube, and I can't stop ever since. They haven't release any album back then so I was visiting their soundcloud literally, everyday. I'm in love with the aggressivity of the ending of "Bloodsport", the bridge-pickup-with-zero-tone guitar sound, the mental live performance of them, so "Bloodsport" was on my repeat one list back in the day. But not when "the day" has come, the release date of their first self-titled album, it was more beautiful than love on first sight (or hear). The opener "People in Love Make Me Feel Yuck" is pretty much describe what the whole thing you're gonna listen in the next forty or fifty minutes. All the aggressiveness of Eoin and Rory Loveless (they pretty much hate the Sheffield music scenery that too much Arctic-Monkeyness) blend with their anger, and hate. Anger and hate is good if you pour it into the good side of yourself, in this situation it's their musicality. They remind me to the early Nirvana, the Mudhoney era but with proper tshirt. After they gave you nine-aggressive-songs, they let you chill down with the last three songs. "Bye Bye Bao Bao" is the opener of this section, followed with eight minutes of depression version of hate (instead of aggressive version of hate) "Let's Pretend". Their last song "Fuckabout" is the perfect song to close the entire album, it was like they want to show you even with their last name "Loveless" they still have a heart. A harmony is shown, the melancholy side of the Loveless bros closed with "I don't give a fuck about people in love, they don't piss me off, they just make me give up." Brilliant, 10/10 lads!

Primal Scream - "More Light"

Primal's number 10! The tenth album  indicates their comeback after 2008's "Beautiful Future". Well actually they never been on hiatus but 5 years without Bobby G's work is dull, a pretty dull world. They start since 1987, even when I wasn't born, and never stop working until now. More Light is beautiful, more experimentic (compares to my fav "Give Out, But Don't Give Up"), more Screamadelica vibes. They still soundtracking Brittain's life, the politics, and the Brits culture. The first track "2013" is a soul melody, with dessert-snake kind of vibes, and rough acoustic guitar tune. The first track I hear in this album was "It's Alright, It's OK" and believe me, I didn't expect "More Light" is gonna be sound like this. The "XTRMTR" vibes at mind, but soul-bossanova vibes at heart. Well played by Bobby G and co's, they want more fight and more light for years ahead.

Foals - "Holy Fire"

When I first listen to "Inhaler" somewhere in 2012, I was like "Ok, you guys have to make something more than this to get in the big league (Yannis obsession, apparently)", but not after the "And i can't get enough, space" section, that was the climax should describe as it is, the grunge-y kind of riff heavier than they used to, play on the higher note. Ok this should be enough for them to get in the big league. And guess what? Yes they did it, play on the main stage on several festives, Mercury Prize nomination along with Arctic Monkeys and James Blake, that should be enough to consider they in the higher ground since "Total Life Forever". Yannis is pretty much sick of the comebacks, it makes the opportunity to headlining the festivals is almost impossible. The oldies should be giving the opportunity to the youngster, that's pretty much what Yannis tought, I can't really remember exactly how he said it. "If you're not Arctic Monkeys, there's no chance to headlining big festival with this kind of oldies comeback", "you had your time, now it's time for us to take control the festival". A lil bit too arrogant, innit? Well that was Foals and they prove it with a massive album. A well heard in a woods, with strong ambience supporting, like what they did in Royal Albert Hall, their latest DVD, good sounds, good lightings, very strong ambience. Again.

Arcade Fire - "Reflektor"

Last but not least, Arcade Fire or should I mention them as Reflektor? A double side album for the Canadian group, a very good dance-able songs. Art-like album, they take a walk to the different side of the world with Carribean vibes, Bossanovas, and that kind of harmony. I tought they had fun with this album, appearing on several gigs as Reflektor instead of Arcade Fire, wearing a big head helmet version of themselves on a tube on their way to their gig, and amusing music video. "Here Comes the Night Time" music video is a preview to their album before they release it, a lot of gimmicks, celebrities appearing in this music video. My favourite part is of course the spanish Michael Cera part "que sueñan con ser Mumfords and sons" (they dream about being Mumford and Sons) (pretty much) a good sarcastic cameo, innit? hahaha. The first time I listen to them was a glorious moment, I was in bad state at the time and listen to this album for the very first time is like, forgetting all the problems and just dance and flow with the music. Not to mention "We Exist" bass line is reminding me to Billie Jean, it's a very good song. Like the deputy of editor of NME said, "This Arcade Fire album is like jeans-shopping. You spend ages searching for the best ones and wonder which you'll go back for at the end" a humorous yet genius analogy.

So that's it, my version of top 5 albums of 2013 with a little review about it. Actually there's plenty more of my 2013's favourite album like Jagwar Ma's "Howlin" or Miles Kane's magnificent work but, they can't surpass any of these albums. I hope there's plenty more on 2014, hope it's gonna be a good year since 2013 is pretty shitty for me. Altough it's pretty shitty but you just can't miss out those great album, and said it's the worst year ever, can you?
